Flour Bluff, Texas
Nueces County

photograph by Kay

Flour Bluff is a semi-rural community about 10 miles southeast of downtown Corpus Christi. According to the book "1001 Texas Place Names" by Fred Tarpley, the namegivers of Flour Bluff could see sand dunes resembling high piles of flour when looking south from Corpus Christi Bay. Flour Bluff served as a port for shipping cotton down the Laguna Madre into Mexico during the Civil War. When it was completed in 1941, the Naval Air Station at Corpus Christi had its main station at Flour Bluff.
