Hamilton, Texas became the county seat of Hamilton County when the county was founded in 1858. The first settlers came to the area in 1855. The Civil War and Indian attacks, which continued until 1876, slowed the growth of Hamilton. Hamilton calls itself the dove hunting capital of Texas.
